Splatoon 3’s idol trio, Deep Cut, is hosting its first “live” concert this weekend as part of Nintendo Live 2022, an in-person event taking place in Japan.

Nintendo will livestream the concert beginning at 2 a.m. PT/5 a.m. ET on Oct. 9. Animal Crossing’s resident musician, K.K. Slider, will also be performing under his DJ K.K. persona, as seen in the Happy Home Paradise expansion for Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Here’s how to watch the performance and snag another free Splashtag for the game.

How to watch

The Deep Cut concert will air on Nintendo’s Japanese YouTube channel. The company noted in a tweet that the livestream will be in Japanese without English subtitles, though that shouldn’t be much of an issue given that none of the music has actual lyrics. You can watch the stream below.

For those unable to catch the concert given its inconvenient timing, the official Splatoon Twitter account posted a brief behind-the-scenes look at the musicians behind the performance.

Though this marks Deep Cut’s first live performance, Nintendo has held numerous Splatoon concerts in the past. Most recently, Off the Hook from Splatoon 2 performed during the Tokaigi 2019 event.

How to get a free Splashtag

To commemorate the Deep Cut concert, Nintendo is giving away a free Splashtag background for Splatoon 3.

To claim the freebie, first save the QR code embedded below to your smartphone. After that, open the Nintendo Switch Online mobile app and tap on the Splatoon 3 icon to access the game’s companion service, SplatNet 3.

SRL again with a S.W.A.G. alert! That’s Science, Wisdom, And, Gear. (Best we could do—the Acronym Team is on vacation.) In this case, you can use SplatNet 3 to scan this QR code to receive a cool Nintendo Live-themed banner at your in-game terminal. Show it off on your Splashtag! pic.twitter.com/NbRt2jZmQD

Next, tap the QR Code Reader icon and select “Scan a QR code from a saved image.” Choose the QR code you just downloaded. You’ll receive the Splashtag banner the next time you fire up Splatoon 3 on your Nintendo Switch and visit the lobby terminal.

The Deep Cut concert comes ahead of Splatoon 3’s next Splatfest, which will kick off on Nov. 11. In celebration of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s launch next month, the event is a Pokemon tie-in, asking players which type they choose when setting off on a Pokemon adventure: grass, fire or water?

In other Nintendo news, the company aired a Nintendo Direct on Oct. 6 featuring the first trailer for the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie starring Chris Pratt. The film is slated to hit theaters April 7, 2023. A new trailer for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet was also released on Oct. 6.
