During Sony’s State of Play today, we got another look at Hogwarts Legacy, specifically a little taste of a console-exclusive quest involving a shop in the village near Hogwarts: Hogsmeade.

The trailer shows the shop of a woman named Madame Mason, who is apparently putting it up for sale – but there seems to be something strange at the heart of her desire to sell. There’s a creepy basement involved, and a run of bad luck, a hallway that is much longer than it initially appears, and some extremely creepy mannquins near the end of the trailer.

The end of the trailer revealed that this is all a PlayStation-exclusive quest called “The Haunted Hogsmeade Shop”, which includes an additional dungeon, a cosmetic set, and an in-game shop.

A PS Blog post following the show gave more detail about both the quest and Hogwarts Legacy in general. Specifically, we learned that the shop reward for finishing the quest lets you sell items and gear at better rates than anywhere else. Additionally, PS4 and PS5 pre-orders of Hogwarts Legacy will unlock the Felix Felicis potion recipe, a luck potion that reveals gear chests on the minimap for one in-game day.

The blog also noted discussion around a previous trailer for the game revolving around a quest where you decide whether or not to torture another student by casting Crucio, or if you will allow it to be cast on you. The quest itself is completely optional, but is intended to explore “an ever-present question about the Dark Arts; are they still evil if they could save a life?”

Sony State of Play: Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy has remained controversial since its announcement due to repeated transphobic comments made by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. While Warner Bros. has said the author is not directly involved with the game, studio leadership has added that “she’s entitled to express her personal opinion” and she nonetheless owns the IP and will earn royalties from anything Harry Potter-related.

Hogwarts Legacy launches on February 10, 2023 for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. You can catch up with everything else shown off during the State of Play in our roundup.
