Tom Holland Says Part of Him Wants to Walk Away From Spider-Man [IGN]

Tom Holland is definitely up for making more Marvel Cinematic Universe films but has admitted part of him wants to walk away from Spider-Man altogether.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Holland said he’s afraid to mess with what’s currently a beloved trilogy of Spider-Man films, even if he and the executives at Marvel do have a good idea for a fourth movie.

“I think we found the reason [we would do another film],” he said. “I’m really, really happy with where we’re at in terms of the creative. But I’m also a little apprehensive about it.

“There’s a bit of a stigma about the fourth one in all franchises. I feel like we hit a home run with our first franchise and there’s a part of me that wants to walk away with my head held high and pass the baton to the next lucky kid that gets to bring this character to life.”

Discussions around a fourth film are currently on hold in solidarity with the writers’ strike that’s currently affecting a ton of different TV shows and movies. The team appear fairly happy with their idea, however, and Marvel boss Kevin Feige even said in February that his writers already have a story together.

It will likely be a while before we hear official confirmation of the fourth film, of course, since Marvel has another two phases of TV shows and movies to get through before unannounced films can come into the picture.

This wasn’t helped by a complete reshuffle of Disney’s schedule announced earlier in June that saw the final Phase 6 film, Avengers: Secret Wars, pushed back an entire year to May 7, 2027.
