Sonic the Hedgehog’s Knuckles Spin-Off Show Casts Game of Thrones’ Rory McCann and More [IGN]

Paramount has enlisted a star-studded cast to appear alongside Idris Elba’s echidna in the Sonic the Hedgehog spin-off series Knuckles.

In addition to Elba reprising his role from Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Adam Pally will return to our screens as Wade Whipple alongside Tika Sumpter, who will continue in her role as Maddie Wachowski from the Sonic movies, with Game of Thrones alum Rory McCann also guest starring.

The show will also star Edi Patterson, Julian Barratt, Scott Mescudi, and Ellie Taylor in recurring roles, though details of those roles are currently unknown. Additional cast members will also be announced in due course, as production on the series kicked off earlier this month.

The upcoming series takes place between the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which is due to hit theaters on December 20, 2024. The show will set Knuckles on an action-packed path of self-discovery as he agrees to train Wade as his protégé.

All of the key creative team from the previous movies are returning for the new series, including director Jeff Fowler, who is helming the pilot episode from a script written by head writer John Whittington. The other series writers include Brian Schacter and James Madejski.

Additional directors for the Knuckles series include Ged Wright, Brandon Trost, Jorma Taccone, and Carol Banker. Elba will serve as an executive producer alongside Whittington, Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and Toru Nakahara — who were all featured on the films’ creative team.

Knuckles is the latest in the burgeoning Sonic Cinematic Universe following the release of the first Sonic the Hedgehog film, which was met with critical and box office acclaim, and Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which became the highest-grossing video game movie in the US.
