We’re just days away from Samsung Galaxy Unpacked on July 10, and the tech giant has now come about as close as possible to pre-announcing its news — by sending reported takedown requests to the X social network where a leaker published purported images of the widely expected Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 foldable devices.

Evan Blass, a well-known industry leaker, published what appeared to be marketing images for the company’s upcoming devices last week, adding to the torrent of details that have spread across the internet ahead of its Galaxy Unpacked event being held in Paris on July 10

Samsung’s seeming response came Monday, when Blass published an image of more than a dozen emails from “Twitter Support” citing takedown notices received under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

The move, which effectively requests that content be pulled under copyright grounds, often has the effect of confirming the veracity of a leak, since companies often argue the copyrighted imagery is theirs and was published without permission.

Samsung representatives didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Samsung’s moves mark the latest twist in the lead up to the company’s next big product launch, which is expected to include the upgraded foldable devices, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. The devices, which offer Samsung’s foldable takes on tablets and smartphones, respectively, aren’t expected to be as widely sold as the company’s flagship Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus and Galaxy S24 Ultra. Still, they offer Samsung an opportunity to draw attention to its more innovative efforts, particularly in contrast to Apple’s expected September upgrade to the iPhone 16 line.

The Korean tech giant is expected to use its event to also announce its already teased Galaxy Ring wearable body sensor, which is expected to take on products like the $299 Oura Ring. Samsung has also been rumored to announce upgraded smartwatches during the event, including a “premium” version similar to the $799 Apple Watch Ultra.

Meantime, Samsung and its partner sellers are preparing for the upcoming event by offering deals for saving up to $1,500 if people reserve a device before its Unpacked event. The company is also offering lower prices for its existing Galaxy Flip 5 through various wireless carriers.
