PSA: In Spider-Man 2 You Can Do Unique Tricks While Dive-Bombing [IGN]

As someone who has finished Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 and already started messing about with what’s next, I was delighted to learn there are a few unique tricks you can do while falling through the air.

The best of these we’ve discovered so far is Peter Parker’s cool Rubik’s Cube air trick, which sees Spider-Man pull out a Rubik’s Cube from somewhere within his costume (best not ask) and try to solve it, all the while hurtling towards the ground.

Check out the video below to find out how to do Spider-Man 2’s Rubik’s Cube Air Trick. Otherwise, here are the steps:

  • Climb to the top of a tall building and leap off
  • Click L3 to trigger a dive-bomb
  • Hold square and pull down on the left stick

If you have enough time in the dive, Peter will actually solve the Rubik’s Cube and admire his work. Be careful though! You might end up splat on the ground, and if you have fall damage turned on, that’s the end of poor Spider-Man.

But what about Miles Morales? We’ve found two unique tricks you can do with the younger Spider-Man. Run off a tall building as Miles to trigger the fall backwards animation, hold square then push the left stick up to see Miles casually hold his hands behind his head.

But if you do the same combination for Peter’s Rubik’s Cube trick (hold square and pull down on the left stick) Miles will pull out his phone and start messing around on it. And he’s not just typing on a blank phone either. Enter photo mode to see that there’s actually stuff on the screen. Neat!

Speaking of fall damage, be sure to check out IGN’s fun investigation into whether it makes sense for Spider-Man, according to science and lore.

We wrote in our Spider-Man 2 review: “As a sequel in a spectacular series, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is both blessed and cursed… Insomniac refines a successful formula of combat and web-swinging without revolutionising either in major ways, making them comfy and familiar with just enough new tweaks and abilities to elevate them to fun new heights. The part that feels like it actually needed a radical rethinking is the open world of New York City, which has been made bigger but not better, with an exhausting checklist of mostly repetitious side activities.”
