PlayStation reportedly plans to launch new subscription game service – CNET [CNET]

Sony reportedly plans to launch a new subscription game service for its PlayStation consoles that’ll compete with Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass. The new service, expected to launch next year, will let people pay a monthly subscription fee to “access to a catalog of modern and classic games,” according to a report Friday from Bloomberg.

The new service will reportedly merge Sony’s existing subscriptions, PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now. PS Plus and PS Now both offer online access to games, but they have little overlapping content. Sony plans to stick with PlayStation Plus branding but phase out PlayStation Now, according to Bloomberg. 

The new service is reportedly expected to be available on the PS5 and PS4. It’s unclear how much the game service will cost, but PS Plus and PS Now both currently cost $10 a month or $60 a year. 

PlayStation didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
