Katy Perry’s Pokemon music video reveals lifelong friendship with Pikachu – CNET [CNET]

Katy Perry released the video for her song Electric on Friday, and it tells a cute story about her long friendship with Pikachu. The pair visit her past, and see a younger Perry struggling to get motivated in early days as a musician. Her Pichu — Pikachu’s baby form — helps her get through the tough times.

The video was directed by Carlos López Estrada, who also wrote and directed Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon.

“The song’s themes — resilience, igniting your inner light — have guided my life and also parallel Pokémon’s story and characters,” Perry said in a release. “Pikachu is the evolved form of Pichu, so in the video, you see the younger version of me with Pichu and myself in the present day with Pikachu. We both evolve, yet retain a sense of playfulness.”
