First up this week on Hulu, try The Skeleton Twins (2014). The comedy-drama, starring Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig, follows estranged siblings who suffer a near death experience on the exact same day. This brings the pair back together and they learn that their relationship might just be key to turning each of their lives around. The Skeleton Twins arrived on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, The Marijuana Conspiracy (2021) arrived. The drama, set in the ’70s, follows a group of young women who take part in a 98-day experiment looking at the effects of marijuana on women. Note the movie, based on a true story, received a mixed response, aka 50% on Rotten Tomatoes.

On the same day came Steven Soderbergh’s Unsane (2018). The Crown’s Claire Foy stars as a young woman involuntarily committed to a mental institution. Eventually she questions whether that mental institution is real or not. What’s even more insane? The psychological horror was shot entirely on the iPhone 7 Plus.

A couple of films arrived on Thursday: coming-of-age drama Blast Beat (2020) and boxing drama Jungleland (2019). Finally, on Saturday comes We Broke Up (2021), a dramedy starring The Boys’ Aya Cash and The Good Place’s William Jackson Harper. It follows a couple who break up days before attending a wedding, but who pretend to still be together in the hope of ensuring a smooth event.

Last week’s arrivals include comedy Together Together (2021); indie romance AWOL (2016); documentaries Homeroom (2021), The Force (2017) and The Waiting Room (2012); horror-thriller Held (2021); crime-thriller The Virtuoso (2021); and young adult movie The Hate U Give (2018). If none of those options take your fancy, check out the list of best Hulu originals below.

Plan B (2021)

Hulu

This road trip comedy covers familiar territory, but that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable. Kuhoo Verma and Victoria Moroles star as odd best friends: one a straight-laced student, the other a slacker who helps the former track down a Plan B pill in conservative small-town South Dakota — within 24 hours of a regrettable first sexual encounter. Following in the footsteps of the fast-paced and fresh Booksmart, Plan B is a witty, bawdy ride that holds nothing back.

Nomadland (2020)

Chloé Zhao’s Nomadland has been sweeping awards at film festivals and unsurprisingly won best picture, best director and best actress at the Oscars. Zhao’s a true workhorse, directing, editing and writing this contemplative and fascinating drama about a woman (Frances McDormand) who leaves her home to travel around the American West. Get this: Members of the supporting cast are real-life nomads playing fictionalized versions of themselves. See this extraordinary piece of filmmaking from the director who’ll bring her unique lens to Marvel’s Eternals later this year.
