The Microsoft event on Wednesday is almost certain to feature updates to its Surface line of PC products

Starting in 2012 with the original Surface tablet, the line has grown to include the Surface Pro tablet, Surface Laptop, Surface Studio desktop and other models.

What to expect

Microsoft has been reliably churning out updates to its Surface products a couple of times per year since 2012. The most recent was the Surface Laptop Go 2, an inexpensive clamshell laptop launched in June 2022.

The flagship is the Surface Pro line, a Window tablet paired with a (sold separately) keyboard cover. The most recent version was 2021’s Surface Pro 8.

If that gets updated, it’ll likely be called the Surface Pro 9. Both the Surface Pro and the Surface Laptop (available in 13-inch and 15-inch versions) are about a year old in its current iteration. Following recent naming conventions, a new laptop model would be called  Surface Laptop 5.

Other Surface products updated less frequently include the Surface Book 2-in-1, the Surface Go budget tablet, the Surface Studio desktop and the Surface Studio Laptop, which was a new hybrid design introduced last year.
