As players battle their way through the just-released God of War: Ragnarok DLC, one of its developers has teased there’s more to come from the story after the credits roll.

The Valhalla DLC adds a roguelike mode to Sony Santa Monica’s hugely popular action adventure, but it also contains a surprising amount of story, which was the focus of senior writer Orion Walker’s post on X/Twitter that certainly set the cat among the pigeons within the God of War community.

“You really think the credits are the end of the story?” Walker asked. “C’mon. C’mon now.” What’s Walker teasing here? IGN won’t include Valhalla spoilers here, but it’s worth noting the DLC serves as an epilogue to the events of God of War Ragnarok. And it seems the DLC’s credits are worth soldiering through, too.

IGN’s Twenty Questions – Guess the game!

Welcome to 20 questions. Can you guess the game?

Some fans are taking Walker’s comments as a fun hint at a third God of War game in this latest version of the series. Such a game wouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Sony’s 2018 God of War was a successful reintroduction and reimagination of the franchise, and its sequel, God of War Ragnarok, was one of the biggest hits of 2022, selling more than 15 million units worldwide across PS4 and PS5. It seems highly likely that another surefire-hit God of War is in the works at Sony Santa Monica, this time no-doubt a PS5 exclusive.

While we wait to find out what the developer has in store for the God of War story, check out IGN’s interview with Sony Santa Monica to discuss the Valhalla DLC. And, if you’re playing, here’s our Valhalla guide.

In other God of War news, Mihir Sheth, director of the Valhalla DLC, posted on X/Twitter to say “there is an endgame challenge in [Valhalla] that no one on the dev team has completed on the hardest difficulty ‘Show Me Mastery’.”

“I am so, so curious to see how quickly players will humble us.. as they often do… but maybe this time we’ve beaten them?”

Sheth later clarified the difficulty mode itself is not the challenge he was referring to, saying “you’ll know it when you see it”. Then: “Yes, it is only available after the credits roll.”
