View Article on IGN

Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth is coming exclusively to PS5 on February 29, 2024 — which is coming right up. Preorders for the game are now live at all the usual retailers, but if you want the deluxe edition, you should grab it from Target while it’s still available (it’s sold out everywhere else).

This sequel continues the remade — and in some cases, rewritten — story of Final Fantasy VII. It takes place after our heroes have ventured out of Midgar and into the open world. This sequel is coming in a number of editions, each of which gets you a different set of goodies. Below, we break down what comes in each edition so you can preorder the one that suits you best.

Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth (Standard Edition)

Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth Collector’s Edition (SOLD OUT)

Square Enix is also releasing a pricy collector’s edition that comes with the game itself, plus the following extras (according to the listing):

Final Fantasy 7: Remake & Rebirth Twin Packs (Digital Download)

If you’re going the digital route, this may be the one to get. The digital-only Remake & Rebirth Twin Pack gets you digital copies of Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth for the price of a single game. If you buy this pack, you can play FF7: Remake immediately — no need to wait until February 29.

The only difference between the standard and deluxe editions of the Twin Pack is that the digital deluxe one includes all the extras for Rebirth included in the Rebirth digital deluxe edition (see below).

Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth Trailer

What is Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth?

As stated above, Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth is the second entry in what is now known as the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. It continues on from the end of Final Fantasy 7: Remake, with our favorite party stepping outside the walls of Midgar to continue their journey. While much of the plot is still being kept under wraps, we did dig into the trailer that was released this year during Summer Games Fest to find 7 major details included in it to help point fans in the right direction.

The game’s director, Naoki Hamaguchi, has also explained that the game features a “multifaceted world with a high degree of freedom,” and a developer comment on Twitter detailed that new characters will join you in battle as well.

Though this game is still yet to be released, Square Enix has also confirmed that the third part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy — currently titled Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 — is in development.
