The Electronics Entertainment Expo is set to return in 2023 as an in-person and digital event, according to the Washington Post Tuesday.

“We’re excited about coming back in 2023 with both a digital and an in-person event,” Electronic Software Association CEO Stan Pierre-Louis told the newspaper.

E3 was supposed to be held in 2022, but was canceled because of the pandemic. The ESA held E3 digitally in 2020 and 2021.

“E3 will return in 2023 with a reinvigorated showcase that celebrates new and exciting video games and industry innovations,” the ESA said in March.

The ESA did not immediately respond to CNET’s request for comment.

While E3 has been put on hold, Summer Game Fest 2022 is still set to happen this Thursday, June 9. The event will have game announcements, reveals and a Day of the Devs indie games exhibition.

A trailer for the event showed first-person shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, survival horror experience The Callisto Protocol, downloadable expansion Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course and Batman-themed multiplayer adventure Gotham Knights.
