The second set of the Disney Lorcana Trading Card Game, titled Rise of the Floodborn, will release in local game stores on November 17 and mass market retailer stores on December 1. A limited-edition Disney100 Edition collection will be available at all stores on December 1. Here’s a list of what to expect from these new releases, as well as a statement from developer Ravensbuger addressing the state of the game.

Ravensburger Addresses Lorcana Fan Demand

Lorcana has taken the TCG world by storm since hitting shelves last month. The easy-to-learn, Magic: The Gathering-inspired gameplay has won over veteran card gamers and casual Disney fans alike. Players summon Disney characters, use familiar items, and harness the power of popular Disney songs to race to victory. We here at IGN had a positive first impression of the game and our enjoyment of the game has only grown since then. General interest in the game has also grown exponentially, but the massive demand paired with limited supply has made it nearly impossible to find in stores and caused prices of sealed products and single cards to spike.

Filip Francke, Global Head of Games at Ravensburger, acknowledged the demand, and their effort to meet it, in a press release.

“The response to the release of the Disney Lorcana TCG has been astounding. The game has only been available for about a month, and fans are already eager for more,” Francke said. “As we work diligently behind the scenes to meet current demand, we’re also planning incredible updates and new sets for years to come that we can’t wait to share. We’re excited to reveal a little more about what is coming this holiday to expand the game and story for this year.”

Ravensburger previously promised more cards will hit the market in October and that The First Chapter set will be reprinted.

Everything New in Rise of the Floodborn

The next Disney Lorcana expansion Rise of the Floodborn promises new franchises joining the fray, new cards, a new gameplay mechanic, and new developments in the story of Lorcana.

Disney Lorcana: Rise of the Floodborn will introduce over 200 new cards. Flip through this slideshow gallery to see all 13 newly revealed cards from the second set:

The new Disney properties include Winnie the Pooh, The Princess and the Frog, The Jungle Book, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Great Mouse Detective, Pinocchio, Zootopia, and Raya and the Last Dragon.

A new mechanic called Resist will be introduced in Rise of the Floodborn, which makes characters tougher and harder to banish. For example, if a character has Resist +2, then they will take two less damage when challenged. This mechanic could prompt players to increase the number of cards in their decks that banish targets without having to challenge, such as Dragon Fire and Maleficent – Monstrous Dragon.

The story of Lorcana began with players being summoned to the magical storytelling realm of Lorcana where they became Illumineers and used magical ink to create glimmers of Disney characters. One type of character introduced in The First Chapter was called Floodborn, which gives characters a new, suped-up design. Rise of the Floodborn will explore what happened when a flood of magical ink mixed up the six different card-type colors (Amber, Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, Steel) and transformed various Disney characters in unexpected ways.

The press release hints that King Triton’s powerful trident has something to do with this mysterious flood. The first set featured cards where characters were investigating what appeared to be purple seaweed (Mickey Mouse – Detective and Duke Of Weselton – Opportunistic Official) so it would make sense that the origin of the Floodborn incident came from under the sea. Perhaps Ursula is up to her old tricks again?
