CD Projekt President Seemingly Hints at a New Witcher Trilogy [IGN]

Speaking during the company’s latest earnings call, Kiciński reaffirmed the developer’s previous announcement that the Witcher 4 (for lack of an official title) will be the first game in a new Witcher saga, but went on to hint that CD Projekt Red considers a saga to be three games.

“We said there will be a new saga. Of course, now, we’re pre-producing the first game of this saga, but we have in mind more than one [game]. So the first saga [comprised] three games, so now we are thinking about more than one game, but we are in pre-production on the first game from the second Witcher saga.”

Kiciński added that the first game in that saga is currently on track per CD Projekt’s estimates: “We are in pre-production phase, this is the first phase of development… As for now, we are where we should be.”

Despite each game telling its own story with a conclusive start and finish, the first Witcher trilogy did have a consistent plot revolving around protagonist Geralt of Rivia.

CD Projekt Red has made it relatively clear that Geralt won’t be the centre of the new saga’s story, meaning whoever the new protagonist is – which is still up for debate – could be the focal point for not just one but potentially three new Witcher games.

The new Witcher game only entered pre-production back in May, explaining why CD Projekt Red only revealed it with a single teaser image. Something so small still spawned myriad fan theories, however, centred around the medallion which led some to believe that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s Ciri would be the protagonist of the new game.

We don’t know too much else about the game, other than that CD Projekt Red has partnered with Epic Games to build it in Unreal Engine 5 and that its director has promised no crunch on his watch.
