A full laptop is a splurge, but if you’re looking for the best bang for your buck — and to get something with more computing power and longevity than a Chromebook — the M2 MacBook Air is tough to beat at this price. Back at its lowest price ever, this is a whopping $200 less than you’d pay at the Apple Store (though the education discount there and Apple’s back-to-school gift card might even that out a bit). Yes, this is a 2022 model, but even this second-gen Apple chip is a bump up from M1-powered models.

Apple/CNET

We ranked Apple’s newest MacBook Air the best laptop overall in its class, and right now, you can get $249 the 13-inch model. That’s not the lowest price we’ve seen, but it’s pretty darn close, so you’ll want to act fast before Amazon bumps the price back up on a laptop that delivers all the benefits of the M2 MacBook Air but with the faster performance of the M3 chip.

Most students carry around a phone these days, which means they’ll need a decent set of noise-canceling earbuds, too. While the third-gen AirPods aren’t quite as feature-rich as the AirPods Pro 2, they’re down to just $140 on Amazon right now, or $29 less than the list price.

Backpacks, lunch boxes and water bottles

Rockland/CNET

This classic backpack is durable, comfortable, and has enough space to fit plenty of supplies without becoming too unwieldy. A nice-to-have feature is the padded laptop compartment, since a lot of students now need to bring Chromebooks or tablets to school. Plus, there’s a handy USB port with a built-in charging cable so students can charge their devices on the go.
